Julian Billmair (b. 1986) lives and works in Munich, Germany and Vienna, Austria. He graduated with honours from Academy of Fine Arts Munich where he studied film and sculpture with Julian Rosefeldt, Philip Gröning and Klaus vom Bruch.
Billmair’s interdisciplinary artistic practice encompasses film, photography, sculpture and installation. His particular interest lies in the relationship between matter and language as well as structures of collective and individual subjectivities and their role in constituting realities. Often embedded in complex narratives, Billmair’s works reflect the conditions and processes of value creation in relation to material, political, and technological issues as well as the socioeconomic field of contemporary art.
